Images account for 60% of the average webpage's weight. If you are uploading 2MB PNGs straight from your camera, you are killing your SEO. You need to pick the right format.

The Three Contenders

  • JPG: Best for photos with lots of colors. High compression, but no transparency.
  • PNG: Best for logos, icons, and text. Supports transparency, but file sizes are huge.
  • WebP: The modern hero. Google created it. It supports transparency like PNG but is 30% smaller than JPG.

The Strategy:
Use WebP for EVERYTHING. Every modern browser supports it. If you have an old PNG logo, convert it today.

Responsive Sizes (srcset)

Don't serve a desktop-sized image to a mobile phone. Use the HTML `srcset` attribute to let the browser pick the right size.

One Last Tip

Always name your files `keyword-rich-name.webp`, not `IMG_5923.jpg`. Google reads filenames!
